Yuri's Night Bay Area 2008
Yuri's Night Bay Area 2008,  Saturday April 12, 2008 at NASA Ames (2 pm to 2 am) is a celebration of space exploration—and mankind’s curiosity, scientific ingenuity, technical achievements, and spirit of collaboration that have made it all possible. Each year, in over 120 places world-wide, Yuri’s Night commemorates mankind’s first venture into space, by Russian Cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin on April 12, 1961, and the launch of the first Space Shuttle by NASA exactly twenty years later. This year, NASA’s 50th anniversary, the Bay Area will be home to the largest Yuri’s Night celebration ever, with 8,000 people joining astronauts, artists, scientists, engineers, and musicians to pay tribute to our global space heritage and to celebrate how much more is out there to be discovered!

The International Association of Astronomical Artists will have two presentations, both visual

Participating in the show will be a DVD presentation by Don Davis of the International Association of Astronomical Artist's 25th Anniversary book in which I have section dedicated to digital painting.  (No words in the DVD.  It is all pictures.)

Also being presented will be an installation of 'mail art' called "A Postcard for Yuri" that will be put up throughout the evening.  Starting with placing a single image on a wall, it will slowly expand to cover the wall throughout the evening.  IAAA members will have mailed in  a message to Yuri Gagarin in form of a piece of mail. It doesn't necessarily mean it will be an actual postcard, but could be a letter, an object, or anything else accepted for shipment by the postal system.  These items will be for sale for a humble $10 which will benefit future IAAA exhibits.  It if you make it, look for some new art from me/Art from the Soul.
